Movies and God's Grace

Well, last night was a good beginner. We all have different views on movies. Some of us could walk away last night saying, "Yeah, I agree with everything." Others of us walked away going, "There's no hope!" But, there's no denying that Scriptures give us help in our decisions on TV and movies.

As a result of last night, all of us can walk away striving to learn something more about God's grace and how we can move forward spiritually and not allow certain movies to bring us down. Instead, we can move forward and seek after God with greater passion!

"For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age," (Titus 2:11-12)

This post is here for you. Any questions, concerns or comments?

Our discussion I thought was just ok. I think I was expecting a discussion, instead of being preached too. But overall, I think you did a good job. There were some good questions, but again, I don't think it was a 'discussion'...Anyways, too all, you may check out my blog with my research on this topic...

That's interesting you made that comment. I wish that we could have had more discussion; however, I wanted to give you more information that would help you rather than get too much "off track". I didn't want to give you a set of rules or just tell you what I think about specific movies....

Anyway, the discussion is for now (now that we've talked about specific guidelines).

Hey PT2,
I was very upset that I missed this topic because I was on Vacation but I'm glad that it went well. Thanks for posting a little bit about it too! Also just letting you know that I wasn't at church tonight and I won't be next wednesday either...even though I really truly want to be because we've been having really good discussion topics lately and I don't want to miss out on them...but...I have a band camp that is required for my grade that I need to be at every night from 6-9 until school begins so i just wanted to let you know that...sorry I couldn't babysit friday night :) I'll see you on Sunday!

I have a question. Can you use movies to bring you up, even if they're not family- or christian-oriented movies?

Pastor Timothy said...

I believe you can.

The Bible says that in whatever you do, do it all to the glory of God. So, whether I eat or drink food (and there's no such think as Christian food or drink), I should glorify God. In the same way, whenever I watch a movie, I should be built up whenever I see goodness prevail and justice taken. I should be upset whenever God's principles are taken out of line. There's a lot more that could be said, but a basic answer is "yes". Although, there are definitely MANY movies that are WRONG.
